Bentota River Safari Prices 2026: What's Included and Which to Choose
A private river safari in Bentota with us costs from US$30 to US$80 in total for your whole group, depending on how many guests are aged 5 or older and which safari you choose. Prices are per boat, not per person, and children aged 0–4 ride free.
Below are the exact 2026 prices, what’s included, and how to choose between our two safaris.

For groups of 9 or more, we first check boats and safe passenger capacity, then send you a quote on WhatsApp.
What every safari includes
Both safaris are fully private: only your group is on the boat. Each one includes:
- your own boat with a trained sailor-guide
- life jackets for everyone, including child sizes
- a first-aid kit on every boat
- insurance cover (subject to the policy terms)
- no compulsory spice-garden visits or shopping stops
Safety first, and respect for the river
Our guides are from Bentota and trained in boat safety. We check the weather and the river before every trip, and we don’t go out in unsafe conditions. Our boats are serviced regularly. On the water we slow down in the mangrove tunnels, watch wildlife quietly from a distance, use no single-use plastic on board and take all waste back to shore.

Choose Signature if you want the fuller experience: more time on the river, a guide looking out for wildlife, a fresh king coconut, and free pickup from eligible hotels within 4 km.
Choose Essential if you’d like a shorter, lower-priced cruise through the mangroves and can make your own way to us. It’s a relaxed scenic trip rather than a wildlife-spotting tour.

How group pricing works
You pay one total for the boat, based on the number of guests aged 5 and over. Some examples:
- A couple pays US$48 for Signature (US$24 each) or US$36 for Essential.
- Two adults with a three-year-old still pay for 2 guests, because children aged 0–4 are free.
- A family of four with children aged 6 and 9 pays for 4 guests: US$60 for Signature or US$44 for Essential.
Every passenger counts toward the boat’s safe capacity, including free children, so please tell us everyone’s age when you message us.
Hotel pickup or our office
With Signature, pickup from eligible hotels within 4 km is free. We pick you up 5–15 minutes before your start time, depending on the distance, so allow about 2¼–2¾ hours in total. If you’re staying farther away, you’re welcome to come to our office yourselves, as many guests do. We may also be able to arrange transport for an extra charge, and we’ll confirm that charge before you book.
Essential doesn’t include transport: you come to our office in Bentota, next to Aida Gems & Jewellery. There are no shopping stops on our safaris.
What about wildlife?
Guests regularly mention crocodiles, monitor lizards, monkeys and birds such as kingfishers in their reviews. But these are wild animals, so sightings vary from trip to trip and can’t be guaranteed. Several guests in our reviews recommend an early start, and both safaris can start as early as 6 AM.
How to book
- Message us on WhatsApp with your date, number of guests and preferred safari.
- We check availability, the boat and river conditions, and confirm the details.
- We send you our booking link or a secure payment link.
- Pay a 40% deposit or the full amount, and your safari is confirmed. If you pay 40%, the rest is paid on arrival.
If you cancel 72 hours or more before your safari, we refund 90% of what you paid. Our booking terms explain the rest, including what happens if the weather turns.
